The cup goes on to another Round

We entertained Bryncoch in the WRU Bowl round 2 and came away with a good win without many regulars away in Plymouth, 2 in  weddings and a couple of injuries, but the boys who stepped up done us proud. The field was in good condition after the heavy rain during the night and early morning. Bryncoch started the game strong and put us under pressure but we held out with some good defence. We then put some pressure on our visitors and from a series of attacks we were repelled but when the ball found outside half Newell and he coolly dropped a goal from some 20 yards. After some more pressure we then scored a try from prop forward Steve (Chips) Ludlow when he came on a fine angle run from deep and scrum half Johnny Howells popped a great pass for Chips to crash over and fullback Ben Evans converted. Evans then converted a penalty to put us up by 13 points, and he did not finish there he then scored a good try down the left and run around under the posts to make it a easy conversion for himself. With the score at 20 points to nil Bryncoch did not give up and some great defence lead by Rhodri Milsom kept them out.

The second half started and Bryncoch really took the game to us and we could not get any ball to give us a foothold in the game. We then lost player coach Milsom to a yellow card  for a no arms tackle but we still held strong. After 20 minutes of the half Bryncoch stretched us and outside half Newell deliberately knocked the ball out of a Bryncoch attacker's hands and the referee Mr Ian Jones who had a good game overall gave a penalty try against us. We thought that this would signal a all out onslaught but Bryncoch suffered a few injuries which disrupted them. With the game going into the final quarter Newell slotted his second drop goal of the game and fullback Steffan Hnatiuk crossed for another try for us which was the last score of a very entertaining game.

It was good to see a few ex-players at the game and they were Adrian Robinson, Michael Hopkins (forever vocal), Robert Maggs who was supporting his son the the Blue & White of Bryncoch, Martin Hnatiuk, Phillip Gibbs Paul Bogdan, Kirk Bogdan, Kevin (Ted) Lewis and Steven Wall my apologies if i missed anyone out.

Next week we travel to Crynant RFC for a League game kick off is at 2-30pm.All support welcome. And last but not least awe wish Nadia Bogdan a speedy recovery we missed you supporting the boys this weekend.
