Back with a win.

After the excitement of the Grand Slam last weekend we travelled to Alltwen for the first meeting of the season between us with a much changed team due to 7 players being unavailabled. Into the team came Coach Gavin Thomas at number 8,Scrum half Marcus Atyeo, Tom Evans at flanker Jordan Evans after he broke a bone in his foot several weeks ago, Keenan Thomas after his transfer back,Neil Sainsbury work commitments and Ryan Baitup after a serious Shoulder injury which required a operation which kept him out for 2 years.

We kicked off playing up the slight slope and soon put our opponents under pressure when after a series of scrums number 8 Gavin Thomas broke right and the ball was moved across to wing Luke McDonnell to score in the corner. Alltwen then hit back with a penalty by their outside half which was quickly followed by a try by their second row when he broke away from a maul to score a try which their outside-half again converted for a 10pts to 5 lead. With the game flowing at every opportunity we then regained the lead  when centre Rhodri Milsom took a great angle to cross under the posts for Nathan Healy to convert. Strait from the kick Milsom took the ball on the full he raced up the slope and with the defence closing in he gave a well timed pass to wing Alun Tamlin to score a try in the corner for a 17pts to 10 lead. Our forwards kept on the pressure and we failed to add to the score. And this came back to bite us when again Alltwen score a converted try and a penalty to lead 20pts to 17. Going into the last minute of the half Milsom again crossed for a try which Healy converted for a half time lead of 24pts to 20.

Would the second half be as exciting as the first in one word no, both teams gave it a good go but defences held up well. Going into the final quarter we scored of 5th try when flanker Steffan Williams crossed for a try which Healy converted, for the only score of the half. A good 32pts to 20 win on the road.Next weekend we are home Crynant RFC another team we have yet to play this season. Kick off will be at 2-30pm at Ynyscorrwg Park ALL SUPPORT WELCOME.
