Big win to get us out of the relegation zone.

On a cold day that was interrupted by the first Earthquake felt in Wales for a number of years we had a good win that lifted us out of the relegation zone and long may it last. We just about deserved our win in this game both teams looked rusty after the international brake and games interrupted by bad weather. We started well and put Alltwen under a lot of pressure but some poor ball retention and good defence kept us out. With all our pressure we were lucky not to go behind when we were penalised in front of the posts but the Alltwen kicker missed this easy kick. We then went back up field and won a penalty ourselves but outside half Alun Newell just fell short. But we continued to press and from a close range penalty player coach Steven Lewis took a quick tap and crashed over from 5 meters but the conversion was missed. Now the game became very open with both teams giving everything in attack and defence and were were guilty of over elaborating things and we also turned over a lot of ball. The first half closed without any other scoring.

The second half started in complete contrast to the first with our visitors putting us under pressure and they should have score a early try when a good brake looked to have put the wing in for a try but he dropped the ball. We then began to get back into the game and with us attacking the road end of the field we also dropped a couple of balls in try scoring opportunities but we won a penalty in front of the posts and up stepped full back Ben Evans who has had a indifferent season with the boot but he coolly managed to put the ball between the posts for a 8 points to nil lead. Again both teams tried their best but no-one could find a critical score and going into the final minute we gave a penalty away under the posts which their outside half put over for a bonus point which keeps them 6 points in front of us.

No game next Saturday because Wales are playing in Ireland but we travel to Baglan RFC on Saturday 3rd March for our next league game kick off will be at 2-30pm all support welcome.
