Hard fough win under lights.

History was made at Ynyscorrwg Park last night when we welcomed our first ever lady referee Miss Ambur Dunston to Glyncorrwg, and I must say she applied herself very well and both teams gave her tremendous respect.

With some late withdrawals both teams found it very hard to put out their best teams and we started with only 14 men and we soon fell behind to a early converted try to find ourselves 7 points behind. Then our missing player turned up just after this set back. After some poor tackling we leaked another try which left us 12 points behind and we were struggling to get any sort of foothold in the game. After some 25 minutes we managed a small foot hold close to the ferry line, but some good defence kept us at bay, we crossed the line but were held up on two occasions. With the half coming to a close we fell further behind when the Ferry scored their third try which was converted to leave us behind 19 points to nil down at the break.

They say rugby is a game of two haves and this proved the point. From the start we took a hold of the game and did not allow the Ferry any foothold in the game. We kept attacking at every opportunity and were denied a couple of scoring chances. After some 60 minutes we scored our first try when Steffan Hnatiuk took a pass some 20 meters out and powered his way to the line for outside half Thomas George who kicked well all game to add the extra points. We kept up the pressure and were awarded for our effort when Hnatiuk crossed for another well taken try under the post for George to add the extra points to cut the deficit to 19pts to 14 in favour of our visitors. With the game entering the final couple of minutes we had a series of lineouts close to the try line we managed to cross once but were held up, gave a penalty away at another lineout, but with the game with 2 minutes left we won another lineout and from a couple of rumbles veteran prop Steve (Chips) Ludlow drove over to make it 19 points all, up stepped Mr Ice cool George to kick the winning points. But that was not the end of the drama from the kick off we gave a penalty away in front of the post's some 22 meters out and the Ferry 10 pushed it wide for us to stage a great comeback by 21 unanswered second half points.

Special mention must be made of a coupe of our players for giving us our second win of the season, Steffan Hnatiuk playing openside flanker, Leon Jones, Tom George and Chadd George and front row of Steve Ludlow. Daniel Richards and Steven Lewis whose throwing in at the lineout was a bit off on times. But these three with only Ludlow a recognised front row forward put in a massive shift. I would like to thank the 15 players who took the field in this game for their effort you did the club proud.

Our next game will be Maesteg at home on the 25th March 2-30 pm kick off,

This will be a special occasion for STEVE CHIPS LUDLOW when he play's his 500th game for the club at the age of 53. Congratulations Steve a true member of this great club of ours. Could all of our former players and supporters please come and help celebrate this wonderful achievement in our club and Steve's rugby playing Career.
