In a truly pulsating game scrum half Jonathan Howells turned in a man of the match display with 4 trys to drag us from the jaws of defeat.
With the sunshine down on Ynyscorrwg Park we kicked off and put some pressure on Bryncethin's line but some good defence we came away with nothing. Bryncethin broke out and moved the ball well some 20 meters out the ball was transferred to their wing who had a foot intouch he put in a little grubber kick and about three yards from the line we fumbled and the wing then won the ball to cross in the corner which incensed the home crowd but the conversion was missed.
We then put some forward pressure on the Bryn line and from a ruck close to the line Johnny Howells crossed for his first try and the simple conversion was missed by captain Nathan Healy. Bryncethin then increased their lead from L. Bradley with a penalty for holding back at the line out.
Just after this we lost our captain with a groin injury and Alun Newell came on at outside half. We then had a scrum to defend some five meters out but a mix up between the half backs resulted in Bryncethin scoring under our post and with a simple conversion put them 15pts to 5 up.
With a high kick up the right hand touchline we allowed the ball to bounce and Bryncethin wing picked up to score in the corner which the conversion missed. We were now chasing the game and with some good forward pressure number 8 Robert Molly Jones crossed for a try which sub Newell converted to leave the half time score 20pts to 12 in favour of our visitors.
Bryncethin started the second half and we tried to run the ball out but we gave a poor off load straight to a Bryncethin player who crossed at the posts for a converted try 27pts to 12 now really up against it, but here comes Johnny.
We then took control of the game and Bryncethin could not get their hands on the ball for any length of time. From some strong pressure Howells crossed for his second try which Newell narrowly missed the conversion.
A rare attack from Bryncethin saw their outside miss a easy drop goal and we then lost Rhodri Milsom to a yellow card when he went one handed to the ball no complaints there.
We then got back up field and from some driving play Howells cross again for his third try which unconverted. Coach Thomas then made a couple of changes and Bryncethin were failing to cope with the power of the Corrwg 8 and from more pressure Howells crossed for his 4th try of the match which again went unconverted, leaving the score at 27pts all.
With the game going into the final minutes we dropped the ball for the score that would have put us in front for the first time. We then went on the attack up the right wing the ball was transfer between forwards and backs it found sub prop Steven Lewis who crashed over for the winning score.
Deep into injury time Bryncethin tried their best to get a score but some good defence kept them at bay for a deserved win coming back from a 17 point deficit.
