How could we lose this game after being so dominant in the first half. Poor decisions in turning down kickable penalties (WHY) and poor discipline which cost us two yellow cards. We made a couple of changes for this WRU bowl match and with four of our front five under 21 they acquitted themselves well. After the early morning rain the game started in good conditions with a cross wind blow up the valley from Cymmer. Bryncoch took the lead in the first couple of minutes with a penalty for offside in front of the posts by their outside half S. Ireland. We then got a foothold in the Bryncoch 22 metre area and from a good move along the line the ball found wing Josh Thomas who crossed outwide. But from the kick off we were again guilty for being offside and Ireland again put over a penalty See they don't turn down kicks at goal and these were the six points that cost us the game. We then spent the remainder of the half in our opponents half and burly Centre Rhodri Milsom crossed for a try which fly half Nathan Healy converted. Try has we did we could not get across the line again with a fine defensive display from Bryncoch and some poor finishing plus turning down another couple of penalties. We finished the half with a 12 point to 6 lead and not looking in trouble. From this point the game turned into something of a farce both teams fell foul of the referee who made a couple of strange decisions and the players let this effect them both teams lost a man to the sin bin. Bryncoch then took the lead mid way through the half when their right wing S. Radford was worked clear to cross in the corner for a unconverted try. After a while we got back into the danger zone and was awarded a penalty and it came has a shock that we elected to kick it and Healy put it through the post. We then took a long rang kick at goal but it fell just under the crossbar a fine effort by Rhodri Thomas. In the last minute with us pressing we gave a silly penalty away for arguing with the ref we switched off and Bryncoch took a quick tap moved it to their Centre Craig Thomas who beat a few tacklers and raced away to score under the post for a easy conversion to win the game.
Next week we are at home in a must win game against Briton Ferry, kick off is at 2-30 All support welcome. This game will be sponsored by Mark Chegwin and Phillip Stokes in memory of our Ex Chairman Mr Stephen (Billy) Thomas.
