We travelled up to Crynant in a buoyant mood after a good win against Bryncoch in the WRU Bowl the previous week. But things did not go right from the pre match warm up when two boys clashed head one ended up with a cut eye and the other a cut lip. Our host kicked off and put us under immediate pressure and after only two minutes they chipped over our defence and their wing crossed in the corner for a unconverted try. Crynant kept us pinned back and their ex Aberavon flanker Chris Kinsey kept their pack going well. We did make a rare visit into their half and we won a penalty which Ben Evans put over with ease. This was followed by another Evans penalty which put us into a lead which was against the run of play. Crynant then took the lead again which they would not lose with a try out wide which again they failed to convert. Despite all of their pressure they failed to score again in the half and we were guilty of some poor passing when another rare attack saw break out and with the line at our wings mercy a poor pass under pressure was spilled.
The second half started very similar as the first half with Crynant on top but we began to get into the game. From a scrum close to our line which looked to have gone round they were aloud to play on and score another try which again went unconverted. After this it was us in all out attack but we could not find a way through some good defence and we pounded their line we turned down a couple of penalty chances but with time running out we kicked one to get us a bonus point.
Next week we entertain Ogmore Vale RFC at Ynyscorrwg Park for their first visit since 24th March 2007 when we won 66pts to 0. I am sure this year's game will be much closer. Kick off is at 2-30pm All support welcome.
