We travelled to Briton Ferry with a number of squad player's missing and came away with a comfortable bonus point win.
After the heavy rain of the previous day the field at Briton Ferry looked in remarkable condition. We lost the toss and played down the slope and with the early exchanges even we began to get on top. With us putting on pressure we won a string of penalties but without a recognised kicker in the team we went for position. From a lineout close to the Ferry line won the ball and drove over the line for a try by Steven Lewis playing at prop but the conversion was missed.
The Ferry had a chance to cut the lead with a long range penalty which sailed wide. When ever our opponents out us under pressure our defence was outstanding. From a loose kick which was gathered by fullback Josh Thomas we attacked down the right hand wing Josh and Luke McDonnell exchanged passes but a defenders hand got in the way Josh hacked on to the line and won the chase to score our second try of the game. This turned out to be the final score of the half which we lead 10 points to nil.
With the Ferry attacking down hill this half the first score would be very important. Both teams were giving it their best and with some heavy pressure coming our way again our defence stood firm.
After 20 minutes of the second half we attacked again down our right and were tackled into touch but a Ferry forward was seen to throw a punch into the face of our hooker on the floor and after some pushing and shoving the referee gave a red card to the player it looked a little harsh but there you can't throw punches into the face of a player.
Just after this we had an attacking scrum some 5 meters out and drove the Ferry pack over for a push over try by Steffan Williams which again went unconverted. After this the Ferry threw everything at us but some excellent defence again kept them out. They then lost their hooker with blood coming from his nose and elected to go passive which took a lot away from us.
Going into the final quarter we then got a good foothold in the Ferry half but failed to cross for a try. We then had two attacks from deep which almost gave us a try and on the next attack we broke through for our fourth and bonus point try by Diddy Richards who took over a defender on his back to score his first try of the season which was converted by replacement full back Alun Newell.
Right at the end we lost hooker Sainsbury to a very heavy but fair tackle.A good comfortable win that keeps at the top of the table from Bryncethin.
We entertain Neath Athletic next weekend at Ynyscorrwg Park kick off is at 2-30 pm. All support is welcome. Hopefully we can get a few of our missing player's back for the game.
