Top four finish guaranteed

With this win we guarantee our position in the top four for this season. With work commitments we struggled to put out a full set of backs and we had to play flanker Jordan Evans in the centre where he did a wonderful job of cutting down some dangerous runners from the young and enthusiastic Ferry backs.

Ferry put us under pressure for the first few minutes when the attacked down the slope but after five minutes Josh Thomas fielded a Ferry kick he beat a couple of defenders and the ball was given to Evans and from a great layoff he found scrum half Jon Howells and another equally good off load found centre Lee Bevan who raced away to score a try which Nathan Healy converted.

From another good move where the ball was transferred between both backs and forwards we scored another try when Josh who figured in the move on a couple of occasions crossed out wide and Healy converted.

The young Ferry team rallied and moved the ball well and caused us some problems but in the main we couped well. We then lost Molly Jones to a yellow card and this put us under some pressure and the Ferry scored a good try by their backs which they converted. This left the half time score of 14pts to 7 in our favour.

We kicked of the second half down field and straight from the kick off we won the ball and after a couple of drives the ball found Bevan who crossed for a try which again Healy converted.

From a scrum on the Ferry 22 metre line Number 8 Robert Jones picked up and powered his way over for a try which went unconverted. After more pressure makeshift centre Evans broke a few tackles with his powerful running forced his way over for a try.

We then lost wing McDonnell with a leg injury and on came Coach Gavin Thomas and this meant we had to reshuffle team and put No. 8 Jones onto the wing.

Another good movement between the forwards and backs found Bevan who broke a tackle and raced away for his third try of the game and a change of kicker saw Howells convert from out wide.

After the Ferry lost a prop to injury the game went to passive scrums and with their fast backs guaranteed ball the caused a couple of mistakes in our backs and scored two quick try's of which one was converted.

With the last play of the game we won a penalty and kicked to the corner we won the line out and from a driving maul sub Gavin Thomas was driven over fro a try that sealed a good win.

It must be said that the young Ferry team played their part in this game right up to the end and if they can get a couple of big forwards next season they could be a force to be reckoned with.

No Game Saturday but we have two Home games next week, Wednesday 8th May Rhigos kick off 6-30pm and Saturday 11th May Pontycymer 2-30pm kick off both games at Ynyscorrwg Park ALL SUPPORT WELCOME.
