Hard fought win keeps us on top of the league.

We entertained Cefn Cribwr conquerors of Bryncethin who they beat in last weekend's round of fixture's and we expected a good hard game and it was just that, it went down to the wire and could have gone either way.

We started playing towards the river end of the field and put them under some pressure but their defence held firm. After seven minutes a scrum collapsed and two props got up swinging but it looked like hand bags then our captain tried to stop them and was butted he swung a punch. All three players were called by the referee he issued three red cards to Nathan Healy & Jamie Jones both Glyncorrwg for punching and 1 to the Cefn prop S. Gladwyn for a headbutt. After this there was no other incident during the game.

Cefn won a penalty and went down to our right hand corner their big pack matched us in size and the won the line-out they drove in field the ball found their outside half  L. Rogers who just managed to put the ball down over the line for a good try converted by their scrum half A. Lloyd. But this team of our's never give up and that again was proven today.

After this we were spurred on and won a couple of penalties we run one but then we decided to take a kick at goal which Nigel James was successful. Both teams were giving their all and the extra man they had could have cost us more trouble but we scrambled well. Another penaltly then came our way and James again put it over to cut the lead to 1 point.

With the half coming to a end we then got our third penalty from James for a half time lead of 9 points to 7.

We kicked off the second half but again we could not register a try then from a rare attack the Riders retook the lead with a try when the created a over lap with their extra man and the second row and captain M. Dyer crossed for a unconverted try.

Again both teams were trying to play open rugby and after we won a few penalties we played for the right hand corner. We won a line-line-out and after a couple of drives scrum half Jonathan Howells was on hand to force his way over for a unconverted try, that put us back into the lead which we would hold on to for the rest of the match.

It looked has if another try would give us the much needed win and again it came from Howells whose immense strength from his job as a sheep farmer prove to much for would be tackler's when he burst through three and carried two over the line for a fine try which James converted, for a 21pts to 12 lead.

With the game going into the final quarter Cefn also proved that they don't throw in the towel, our 13 men were now looking tired but again they dug deep. Cefn then lost a player to the bin and this gave us a little breathing space.

Cefn then won a penalty and deiced to go for a bonus point with a kick at goal by A. Lloyd, but it looked has if the ball would fall just short but it hit the bar and just bounced over. Now into the final move of the game Cefn threw everything at us and they were back up to 14 men and they moved it wide they looked to have made a overlap but our gallant 13 men scrambled across and force a forward  final pass and the try was disallowed it would have taken a great conversion from the touch line to win the game. But much to our delight th referee blew for full time. We have now extended our lead to 8 points over Bryncethin.

Next weekend we travel to Crynant who have looked to have turned it around with their recent results. Kick off is 2-30pm. All support welcome please come along and cheer the boys on in their quest for promotion.
