Bad day at Tonmawr.

This was a game which we would like to forget. Tonmawr deserved their win, i know we made a lot of changes and with no outside half available we did not play to our normal strengths and standards.

Tonmawr kicked off and we failed to gather the ball which we knocked on. From the resulting scrum we were driven back some 20 meters. After some pressure from the home team we gave a penalty away for offside i front of the posts and their outside half put them in the lead. After this set back we began to put some pressure on the home defence and twice we were called back for the final pass to be judged forward on both occasions it looked as if we would score.

Then after a lineout close to our line Tonmawr drove forward and they scored a try close to the posts which they converted.

With the half coming to a close with us attacking some ten meters from their line we threw a wild pass which their wing took and raced away the ball as then transferred to a supporting player who raced under the posts for a converted try for a 17pts to nil lead at half time.

We made a couple of changes at half time and things did improve a little and we scored a try by our centre Rhodri Milsom converted by Jonathan Howells playing in the unfamiliar role of outside half.

We then lost Milsom to a yellow card which we can ill aford to do and they capitalise with another try to stretch their lead to 22pts to 7.

But this team of our's never give up and we hit back when we raced down the left got tackled short and the ball was given to Marcus Atyeo playing at scrum half to score out wide and Howells put in a magnificent kick to convert.

With us not on top it was not long before we scored out third try through centre Steffan Hnatiuk when we broke down the right and the ball was moved out to Hnatiuk who crossed but the conversion hit the post.

With the game just about over we then lost Gavin Thomas to a red card for a punch, After the Game Gav apologised to his team mates and the ref for his indiscretion.

We will have to improve on this game if we intend to win promotion and on this performance it will be very hard, so we must get back on the right track next Saturday at Cefn Cribbwr RFC kick off 2-30pm. ALL SUPPORT WELCOME.
