We travelled to Cefn with out 6 players from the playing day squad but with some of the boys playing out of position we acquitted ourselves well in very trying conditions with heavy showers and strong winds.
We kicked of with a strong wind in our faces and with Cefn using the wind to good effect they pinned us back in the early stages but some good defence kept them at bay. After the early onslaught we began to get some pressure in the home 22 meter zone.and from one play we got close to their line and Steffan Hnatiuk playing at scrum half broke from a maul and scored a good try which fullback Alun just missed into the gale.
With both teams attempting to play some rugby in these conditions Cefn also used the wind to good effect and pinned us back. But from some sustained pressure they were awarded a penalty which they put over to cut our lead.
The game continued in the same vein whenever we got close to the home line and lost the ball they used the wind well. But after a good break out by us the ball found Hooker Liam Gibbs who crossed the whitewash and run around behind the post's foe a easy conversion for Newell.
With the wind dropping slightly Cefn then put us under pressure and we lost Hnatiuk for a high tackle and they then won another penalty which they put over for us to finish the half 12pts to 6 in front.
For the start of the second half dropped considerably and the game evened out. No score in the came until the final quarter when after some pressure by the home pack when we were down to 14 men for another yellow card their number 8 powered over for a try which they converted to take the lead for the first time during the match.
But one thing Glyncorrwg never do is give up. Going into the final minutes Cefn lost a forward for a high tackle which knocked Lewis Reynolds to the floor but he regained his senses and got back to his feet.
We then looked to have scored the winning try but the referee Mr Terry Dickson ruled we knocked the ball on in the line out. Cefn could not get in a good clearance kick and we won the resulting line out drove for the line but were tackled just short and their number 8 killed the ball and for his efforts he was yellow carded.
The referee called last play and i expected a scrum being they only had 6 forwards on but Steffan Williams took a short tap he was stopped short we won the ball and hooker Gibbs crossed for his second try of the match which Newell converted for a gutsy 19pts to 13 win which keeps us top of the league by 3 points from Bryncethin.
