We travelled to the Swansea Valley to take on Alltwen and returned with a win to keep us unbeaten in the league this season. This was a better performance to last weekend when we lost to Brecon RFC Development Squad.
We had a few injuries to cope with and moved young centre Conor Teague who acquitted himself well the last time he played at 10 was in youth rugby.
We kicked off up the slight slope and we pressured the home 22 metre area for the first 5 minutes Rhodri Milsom crashed over for a try converted by Josh Thomas. Alltwen then put us under pressure but our defence stood strong. We increased our lead when after we put lot of pressure on our hosts and our second try came through Veteran fullback Gareth Kingman for a well worked try.
To their credit Alltwen never gave up and put us on the back foot for some sustained periods but we defended very well and kept our line intact and with the half going into the final few minutes we were awarded a penalty. We decided to run the ball and after some forward drives flanker and Captain Steffan Williams crashed over for a try, for a lead of 17pts to 0 at half time.
We were now playing down the slight slope for the second half and we increased our lead after some 5 minutes with a try from young second row Keegan Tomlinson his first for the club which went unconverted.
Alltwen tried everything they could to get on the score board but they were unable to penetrate our strong defence. We attacked at every opportunity and we were sometimes guilty of not give the ball to the outside man when he was clear.
We then lost outside half Teague with a ankle injury let's hope he recovers soon because we are struggling for backs through injury but we do hope to sign a experienced outside half this week.
We then scored our fifth try after a good move from our backs who ran strong and the ball found centre Steffan Hnatiuk who crossed for a try and run close to the posts for Thomas to convert.
With the game going into the final quarter we scored our sixth try through Second row Tomlinson who scored his second every try for the club who said try's are like buses you score one and the second comes straight behind it.
On Saturday 23rd November we entertain our near Neighbours Pontrhydyfen RFC at Ynyscorrwg Park kick off will be at 2-30pm. All support welcome as we hope to consolidate our position in second place behind Bryncethin RFC. We are 1 point off the top with a game in hand on them.
