We hoped to get the regular season off to a good start after our pre-season but it was not to be. Cefn kicked off in bright sunlight and both teams looked to move the ball but our visitors looked more comfortable where we did not respect the ball which we lost in contact. After 15 minutes we took the lead with a penalty from Nathan Healy making his first league start for us. In all we had boys making their debut's for us the other two was Neil Sainsbury and Tom Evans. Cefn got on top then they lost a player to the bin for persistent team infringements. We then lost Healy for what looked like a harsh yellow card and Cefn kicked the penalty to level the scores at half time. In the second half both teams tried their best and Cefn again looked the better team. We regained the lead wit another penalty from Healy but that was the last time we troubled the score board. With the game going into the final 20 minutes we lost another two players to yellow cards while Cefn lost one. We cannot afford to lose players to silly infringements. Cefn then scored two tries to stretch away to lead 31pts to 6. in the final minute we run from deep but when it looked has if we would score the cover defense got back and we threw a wild pass which if it had gone to hand we looked to score a certain try but the ball went forward and that was it.
Next week we are away to Pontycymmer RFC for a 2-30pm Kick off. Pontycymmer had a big win on Saturday at Briton Ferry by 50pts to 12. All support Welcome.
On Sunday our under 12's who have merged with Nantyffyllon under the name of NantCorrwg beat Cwmavon in a great game of open rugby which ended in a 35pts yo 25pts in which the lead changed hands on numerous occasions.
