After the exodus of 12 players this season it looks as if we will have a long hard season as some of the younger players bed in,and i am grateful for their supporttoday we welcomed back Captain Gareth Kingman after his operation and forward Rhys Harris after his holiday. Next week we hope that prop Jamie Jones will be fit and prop Steve Ludlow will be back after his holiday.
Today we travelled to Pontycymmer who have also lost a lot of players from last season and the game was evenly matched but they scored two trys in the second half to registar their first win of the season but it was a game where we did not take a couple of chanches. We started well and should have taken the lead from a penalty but Robbie Watkins was just wide. after some pressure from us Ponty broke away and after a series of scrums and drive for the line scrum half Steve John (ex Bridgend) dived over at the posts for a try converted by N. Harris. They then increased their lead with a penalty by Harris. With our make shift front row under pressure we began to get back into the game and from a penalty after a shoulder charge on Gareth Goodridge Watkins cut the home lead. With the half comming to a close some good ball was moved to centre Alun Tamlin who broke a tackle and raced around the full back to score a great try under the posts for Watkins to convert.
Within a minute of the second half restarting we switched off and the home centre Kyle Galtry run through a few tackles to score at the posts for Harris to convert and give his side a 7 point lead. After this we again managed to put the home team under pressure and coild have scored on two occassions one we dropped the ball some 10 meters out and on another we had a overlap but wing Scott Hill took the wrong option. We looked as if we would get a losing bonus point but scrum half John again put us to the sword when he raced away from a ruck to score out wide for a unconverted try. With the minutes running out we put the home team under pressure and they lost a player to the sin bin but we run out of steam and could not find another try.
