Hard fought win at last

In only our third home game of the season we got our second league win in a hard fought battle against Briton Ferry. We started the game with some good pace and after a break by captain Nathan Downs evergreen second row Nigel Cook was on hand to take the try scoring pass but he could not put the ball down to register the first score under the posts. We kept up the pressure and fro a few drives at the line Gareth Rees like outside half Rhodri Milsom crashed over for a try converted by Ben Evans. But the Ferry came back at us and from a 5 meter line out prop Bevan was driven over for a try which went unconverted. We then began to put some good moves together and won a penalty some 25 yards out which Evans put through the posts to increase the lead to five points. But again the bigger Ferry pack drove us over for a second try from a lineout close to our line to tie up the scores. After some good play from both teams we again went into the lead with a penalty from fullback Evans. From a 5 meter scrum the Ferry took the lead for the first and only time of the match when big number 8 Chris Hunt powered his way over close to the posts for a converted try that gave them a lead of 17pts to 13. But with the first half coming to a close we scored the best try of the match again captain Downs made a telling break and passed on to his brother Ryan who slipped a delightful little pass to young flanker Keenan Thomas who scored his first senior try for the club right under the posts which Evans converted.

The second half was a very tight affair with both defenses on top Briton Ferry tied up the scores from a penalty when we were caught offside but Evans was on hand with another penalty to give us the win. His 13 points during the game was a big factor in this win. The game was well referred by Stuart Vaudin of Neath. Now hopefully we can kick on with this young side and get a few more wins under our belt.

No game next week has we are the odd team out but we return on the 30th January at home to Resolven who currently sit at second place in the league kick off will be at 2-30pm all support welcome.
