For the last game of a long and hard season we travelled up the Dulais Valley with a couple of key backs missing but the boys that stepped into scrum half Steffan Williams and outside half Rhodri Thomas were able deputies for this game.
After this good 36 points to 22 win we stand in second position but we wait on the WRU tacking sanctions on Pontycymer for not fulfilling their fixtures when they failed to turn up at Cwmllynfell in mid week, it looks as if we will miss out on promotion and drop down to fourth place. We congratulate Baglan as champions and Cwmllynfell who look like they will finish second.
On to the game we started at a furious pace and scored a well worked try when the ball was thrown about and found left wing Alan Tamlin who beat two defenders to score in the corner but the conversion was missed by Thomas.
We continued to take the game to Crynant and were unlucky not to score on two occasions full back Josh Thomas dropped the ball over the line and No.8 Molly Jones could not ground the ball when he crossed on to his back.
Crynant then came back into the game and scored a penalty for offside. However this did not deter us when stand in scrum half Williams crossed for a unconverted try.
We were playing some of the best rugby of the season but with some good defending by Crynant and some missed opportunities by us it was in to the final quarter of the half before we scored our third try. From a mark deep in our half Rhodri Thomas took a quick tap he found full back Josh Thomas who made ground the ball was transferred between a couple more players then into the Crynant 22 were full back Thomas took the final pass and raced away to score under the posts for Rhodri Thomas to convert.
Then late in the half we lapsed in defence and the home team scored a good try which they also converted. Half time score was 17 points to 10 in our favour.
Crynant kicked off the second half and we were quick onto the attack, after a couple of drives we found wing forward Diddy Richards who bulldozed his way over for a try.
Crynant soon hit back with a try of their own when they crossed out wide on the right and this was also converted to make the score 22 points to 17 but we soon hit back to score another good try from full back Thomas who crossed in the corner and outside half Thomas converted.
With both teams making changes the game lost its way for a bit and we let our hosts in for their third try of the game when they scored in the corner.
Into the final couple of minuets and we put in another fine attack down the left wing the ball was moved around well and left wing Tamlin scored for Thomas put the end to a fine season with a good 36pts to 22 win.
Rhodri Thomas bowed out with a man of the match performance at number 10. Rhodri will be missed by all his team mates thank you Rhodri from everyone at Glyncorrwg RFC.
In the run up to the end we played 9 games winning 8 and 1 drawn game at Cwmllynfell.
The player's and Coaches would like to thank everyone for their support during the season. The presentation night is Saturday 8th June all are welcome.
