We travelled to Llynfi Road to play a Maesteg team that contained no less than 6 ex Glyncorrwg players one being ex Captain & Coach Gareth Goodridge who is no also backs coach to Maesteg.
In bright warm sunshine we kicked off playing towards the town and began to pressure our hosts but they weathered the early pressure. Maesteg should have taken the lead through a straight forward penalty in front of the posts for a no arms tackle but young outside half Thomas George fluffed his kick wide.
After five minutes we took the lead playing advantage outside half Alun Newell put in a kick across field to wing Luke McDonnell who gathered well stepped inside his marker and crossed for a well worked try which went unconverted.
After 12 minutes Maesteg cut the lead with a fine penalty from George, wide out for an infringement at a lineout. With both teams going at each other but both were guilty of not looking to expand their game which was fought out in between both 22 metre zones.
After 35 minutes and with the home team putting in some sustained pressure on our line we finally run-out of defenders and ex Glyncorrwg flanker Ryan Williams crashed over from close range but again George missed an easy conversion. This would be the last time Maesteg would trouble the scoreboard operator.
Going into the final minute Maesteg gave a penalty away on half way, we went down the line won the line out and drove to the line Maesteg pulled down the maul and were again penalised. This time we scrummed down won another penalty. We decided to take a short penalty and flanker and captain Steffan Williams crossed for a unconverted try. At the moment in time our goal kicking is a concern and may come back to bite us on the bum in some games.Half time score 10pts to 8 in our favour.
The second half proved to be all Glyncorrwg and we starved Maesteg of good ball and were on top for most of the half. After 50 minutes we scored our third try outwide on the left we we attacked and moved the ball out to wing Marcus Atyeo to cross in the corner for another unconverted try. After some pressure from Maesteg we broke out with a thrilling move from deep in our own half along the right hand wing and looked to have scored our 4th and bonus point try but the final pass found our wing McDonnell with his foot on the line and our Touch Judge Kirk Bogdan raised his flag and the referee changed his mind and disallowed a fine score.
With us now well on top and Maesteg looking like they had, had enough we scored our bonus point try after some great work down the right number 8 Robert Molly Jones crashed over and run around behind the posts for a easy conversion for Newell.
With us continuing to press and move the ball about we scored our final try in the 80th minute from centre Rhodri Milsom who played for Maesteg early in his career which again went unconverted. that's 11 try's this season and only 2 converted we have to sort out our goal kick soon.
A good 27pts to 8 win keeps at the top of the table with maximum points
